Munich Re and the 精东影业 Information Institute jointly presented a webinar that provided an overview of natural catastrophes in the first six months of 2009. Topics included:
To date, in 2009 -听 with some notable exceptions, such as severe flooding in parts of Central and South America (January, February), an earthquake in Italy (April), and cyclones in the Philippines (May) - the year has seen fewer major global natural catastrophes and less insured losses, when compared to 2008.
In the U.S., there was substantial loss with windstorms and hail events in the first quarter of the year, followed by a fairly tranquil second quarter. However, with the hurricane season in the North Atlantic now upon us, the picture could change in the weeks and months ahead.
